KENTUCKY MARRIAGE MOVEMENT
Without doubt, the institution of marriage has been on the decline in recent decades. Fewer couples are choosing marriage, while more married couples are choosing divorce. There is a great need to equip couples and church and community leaders with the tools and resources to proactively build healthy marriages and strong families in their congregations and communities.
“MARRIAGE: The act of uniting a man and woman for life; wedlock; the legal union of a man and woman for life. Marriage is a contract both civil and religious, by which the parties engage to live together in mutual affection and fidelity, till death shall separate them. Marriage was instituted by God himself for the purpose of preventing the promiscuous intercourse of the sexes, for promoting domestic felicity, and for securing the maintenance and education of children.”
- Noah Webster, Dictionary of the English Language, 1828
Our Vision: To encourage the Biblical model of Marriage and to see marriages strengthened in every home and church across Kentucky. To revitalize marriage in Kentucky to the end that more couples choose to get and stay married, so that every child is afforded the opportunity of growing up in a home with both a mother and a father.
Our Mission: To partner with homes and churches across Kentucky who desire to enrich marriages and encourage healthy relationships or marriage through ministry and mentoring as we stand firm in holding up the Biblical model of Marriage. To serve couples, church and community leaders with the resources to strengthen marriage and reduce divorce and out-of-wedlock pregnancies.
Our Strategy: To collaborate with like-minded individuals, churches, and organizations to facilitate the implementation of community-level marriage initiatives and to promote and encourage the many marriage strengthening efforts taking place within Kentucky.
What is a Healthy Marriage? May need to rethink and reword all of this?!? It is a lifelong committed relationship rooted in unconditional Love and Respect in which each spouse and the union itself is maturing in mutual submission, enrichment, satisfaction and contentment that is beneficial to the marriage itself, the husband, wife and children (if present).
It is a relationship that requires, and is committed to, ongoing maturity in self-sacrifice, honesty (trust and trustworthiness), communication, conflict resolution and humility that leads to the marriage union as a priority and to unconditional Love and Respect for one’s spouse.
